1904 Egypt , Seffer Station in Alexandria
A rare photograph of Tram Seffer Station in Alexandria at the beginning of the 20th century, circa 1904.
The Alexandria tram line began operating in 1860, making it the oldest tram system in Africa and among the oldest in the world.
Throughout its long history, the tram has been a popular recreational activity for both residents and tourists. A trip on the yellow trams, consisting of two cars, takes you through the heart of Alexandria's popular districts. Some of its most famous stops include Ras El Tin Palace Station, adjacent to the opulent royal palace, as well as Raml Station, the Mosque of Qaid Ibrahim, Misr Station, Rasafa, Nozha, Nariman, and Wardian.
The blue trams, on the other hand, offer a tour of the city's upscale neighborhoods, such as Rushdi, Bakous, Safar, Schutz, Zizinia, and Gianaclis. Most of these neighborhoods derive their names from the foreign barons and pashas who resided there.
