1857 Egyptian Obelisk, Cleopatra's Needle, Alexandria
The Raml Station That Our Eyes Never Saw
The Raml Station Corniche in Alexandria in the mid-19th century, specifically 1857 AD.
It shows Cleopatra's Needle, which now stands on the site of Saad Zaghloul Garden (the Obelisk Square). This obelisk remained in this location for centuries, along with another obelisk beside it, until one was gifted to London and the other to New York around 1870 AD.
We also note that the sea level was close to the obelisk (now the site of the Saad Zaghloul statue) because part of the Raml Station Corniche was filled in at the beginning of the 20th century, around 1900 AD.
