Yemen, Aden Cisterns, 1870
Called "Tawila Cisterns," they are located below the mouths of the Aden Plateau, approximately 800 meters above sea level. The cisterns are connected to each other in a chain, and their function is to conserve, store, and discharge water for consumption. There are currently 17 cisterns of varying sizes, with a total capacity of approximately 20 million gallons.
