Riad Shehata in 1914 (photographer)
Riyad Shehata (died 1942) was the personal photographer of King Farouk. He was the photographer assigned to photograph royal events such as weddings and accession to the throne. He also photographed a large collection of photographs depicting the life of the royal family in Egypt.
Riyad Shehata was the first Egyptian photographer to travel abroad, going to Frankfurt, Germany, where he studied photography. He traveled all over the world to capture rare photographs. His photography studio was located in Opera Square in downtown Cairo. After his death in 1942, the studio remained open for the same purpose.
Riyad Shehata authored the first reference book on modern photography, published by Dar Al-Maaref in 1910.
