Cairo - Bab al-Wazir Street, 1889
Bab al-Wazir Street, Cairo, 19th century, 1889 AD
The photo shows old buildings with beautiful mashrabiyas. A horse-drawn carriage is seen in the street. Two foreigners who once lived in Egypt are seen in the picture. In front of them is a man holding a cane, the "Amshji."
The "Amshji" profession is an extinct profession. This person would run in front of the carriage, widening the road for it. They had a famous slogan, "Widen, man!"
