Bab Aden (Aqaba) occupies a significant strategic location. Its gate used to open in the morning and close in the evening. The British built a bridge over it in January 1867, but the bridge was demolished in 1963 to widen the road. During the Turkish and British eras, the gate underwent numerous expansions, restorations, and paving.
