This wonderful photo shows an old shop, possibly a grocery store or restaurant, inside the Khan el-Khalili market in Cairo in 1870 AD.

The hanging cones in the front of the shop are sugar cones or blocks. In the past, sugar was sold in this form, crushed and ground at home.
